Hype

Hype - seems to happen all year round but never more than at Christ-mess when all the sales are on, particularly the mad Boxing day sales when it is promoted that consumers WILL spend (whether they like it or not) $1.5 billion in one day!

It is truly deluded madness especially when we complain all year about not having enough money to feed the poor.

Imagine if consumers could be hyped-up to NOT spend even on that one day and instead donate to charity? We could probably wipe out hunger overnight!

Hype

They supply the image
To which we aspire
And when we reach it
Still have to climb higher.

No longer conscious
We do as we're told
Over the top and
Out of control.

Hype it up - Hype!
Pick the people when they're ripe
Hype it up - Hype!
Build it up to the stereotype
Hype it up - Hype!
Pick the people when they're ripe
Hype it up - Hype!
Build it up to the stereotype

If there's a profit
And a frenzy to feed
Doesn't seem to matter much
What the people need.

It's just another instinct
Abused since you were a child
Stimulate the ego
Watch them all go wild.

Hype it up - Hype!
Pick the people when they're ripe
Hype it up - Hype!
Build it up to the stereotype
Hype it up - Hype!
Pick the people when they're ripe
Hype it up - Hype!
Build it up to the stereotype

Lead break

Hype it up - Hype!
Pick the people when they're ripe
Hype it up - Hype!
Build it up to the stereotype
Hype it up - Hype!
Pick the people when they're ripe
Hype it up - Hype!
Build it up to the stereotype

- Jay Moxham... Nylon acoustic guitar, Lead Vocal, Backing Vocals, DMX drum programming, JX-3P and Poly-6 keyboards and keyboard Bass.

Notes:
- The original word "Hype" ended up sounding like "Hike" (good for a hiking ad!) so for this version I quickly added "Hype it up" over the top in the chorus to cover and distract from that. If it was re-recorded that's how it would be arranged.

- An instrumental version of the second verse and lead break was licenced by a Pharmaceutical company to launch a new miracle pill. It paid $1,000 which in 1983 was a lot! I worked out at the time that it was the equivalent of selling 5,000 single on a normal recorded deal!

- Bells and organ at the start are to evokethe 'circus' of a David Jones Boxing Day Sale!
